SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KTVZ) – The window for Oregon K-12 educators to apply for 2022 SPARK! Creative Learning Grants from the SELCO Community Credit Union are now open.
The grants award up to $1,000 each to fund projects in the 27 counties of Oregon that SELCO serves. SELCO uses the grants to demonstrate critical funding for classroom and extracurricular projects that are innovative, educational and impactful.
In 2021, SELCO awarded more than $54,000 – the largest sum in almost three decades of SPARK! Program – to 64 teachers in 55 schools in Oregon.
“Teachers and students have faced many changes over the past several years, but one thing remains constant, the need for funding to launch creative and innovative ideas,” said Craig Carpenter, SELCO’s senior vice president of lending and business banking . “From the SPARK! In the early days of the program, SELCO’s mission was to ensure that funding was not an insurmountable obstacle preventing great ideas from taking root. For nearly three decades, we’ve watched how great ideas spark a passion for learning in students—a passion that can last a lifetime.”
Now in its 29th year, the SPARK! The Creative Learning Grants program supports educators with creative teaching ideas that need funding. Grants are awarded to applicants with the most innovative, impactful and meaningful projects. SELCO’s SPARK! The committee reviews applications based on the originality of the project, the clarity of the proposal, the number of students involved, skill development, and the diversity and impact of projects.
The application window runs from August 15th to September 30th.
For the 2021-22 school year, SPARK! Grants have helped fund projects of all kinds, including a monarch butterfly school garden, a drone-powered geospatial mapping project, and a program to assess human impacts on ecosystems by sampling macroinvertebrates to determine water quality.
